What is IPTrunking?
IPTrunking is a SIP Trunk. SIP stands for Session Initiation Protocol. A SIP Trunk is a phone call routed over the IP backbone of a carrier using VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) technology. SIP trunks are used in conjunction with a PBX and are thought of as replacements for traditional PRI or analog circuits.

How IPTrunking works:
IPTrunking converges your voice and data over one infrastructure. Utilizing a gateway, you can take advantage of all the benefits of VoIP without replacing or upgrading your existing phone system.

Is equipment required?
IPTrunking can work with any SIP Ready PBX (phone system). IPTrunking can also be made to work with traditional analog or key systems with an IAD (Integrated Access Device) or Gateway. Will I need more Internet Connectivity to utilize IPTrunking?
IPTrunking (SIP Trunks) are virtual circuits delivered over a dedicated business-class Internet access circuit (MPLS, T1 or SDSL). Depending on the number of voice channels (DS0’s) required and the amount of Internet bandwidth available, a business may need to increase or reallocate their current Internet access requirements. It’s important to remember that when a SIP Trunk is not in use for voice, the bandwidth is dynamically allocated for emailing or other Internet uses.
